Alvarado Elementary is a wonderful place to learn! We are a transitional kindergarten through fifth grade school located in culturally diverse Signal Hill. Alvarado provides students with a strong instructional program. High expectations for academic achievement are coupled with the right of all students to a safe and secure school environment. We encourage all of our students to become life-long learners and contributing members of society. We believe all students can learn and succeed. Our teachers and support staff work very hard to make sure all of our students receive the best possible education.

Our school prides itself on our deep commitment to Columbia Readers and Writers Project and Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) in Mathematics. We feel that our focus and implementation of these teaching methodologies are the primary reason why Alvarado students have such high SBAC scores and virtually no achievement gap. Our instruction is tailored to the student level, and teachers regularly conference with students during Reading, Writing, and Math to determine where their next steps are and how to appropriately challenge them.
